The Diary Of A Young Girl-Anne Frank

Image
Author:- Anne Frank Excerpt:-  I've found that there is always some beauty left -- in nature, sunshine, freedom, in yourself; these can all help you. Blurb:- This isn't a story but a true account of a teenager who endured pain and much more by going into hiding with her family due to the atrocities of the Nazi's against Jews. My view:- Anne frank shares in her diary how she and her family had to go into hiding and how each day was spent in constant fear of being discovered and the consequences thereof. She shared in it how there was distance between her and her mother, her dream of becoming a journalist and a writer someday. Through her thoughts, one could see that she was a firm believer in equality and feminism. One can see the transition in her over the course of time that she was in hiding. She questions the point of a war. She questions why a discrimination based on faith. She questions herself for being in hiding when there are million...

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas-John Boyne

Image
Excerpt from the book:- "And who decided which people wore the striped pyjamas and which people wore the uniforms?". Blurb of the book:- The book is set in 1940's during holocaust. Its about a boy, Bruno, who comes home one day only to discover that he has to leave Berlin and go to another place because of his father's job. The main thing that bothered him the most was leaving his three best friends for life. What he discovers in the new place and how it changes his life is the rest of the story. My View/Take:- A gruesome act that killed millions and millions of people for belonging to a section that was considered wrong, depicted through the innocent eyes of a 9 year old. It shows the innocence of a child who doesn't understand why he and his family are on the one side of the fence. when rest of them are on the other side, why there are differentiations. A reader should definitely read this book. This book is a good read and  is written in a beautiful way...

Asura: Tale of the vanquished by Anand Neelakantan

Image
Excerpt from the book: All that talk about honour and pride, of race and skin colour, of morals and traditions, of triumphs and failures, was irrelevant in the greater order of things. Blurb of the book: It is Ravanayana....Ramayana from Ravana and his people's point of view. Also how Asuras and Devas are different from each other yet similar on certain levels.  My take/view: It gives you a new perspective on Ramayana, which is basically a part of our tradition and culture. How Ravana,an asura built a kingdom for his people where people will be credited for their merit and talent. Where there will be equality and freedom. Also from Bhadra's point of view, a poor man, once a soldier, narrates every day struggle to survive in a kingdom which is prosperous. This book showcases how devas and asuras culture were different and how both, treated and respected men and women. Though different from each other, both the races don't condemn one thing...raping ...

Train to pakistan by Khushwant Singh

Image
Train to Pakistan by Khushwant Singh showcases the lives of common people during the India-Pakistan partition. Excerpt from the book:- " Muslims said the Hindus had planned and started the killing. According to the Hindus, the Muslims were to blame. The fact is, both sides killed. Both shot and stabbed and speared and clubbed. Both tortured. Both raped." My view on the book: Before reading this book, I have read few years ago, that, during India-Pakistan partition, millions of people lost their lives while going to their 'respective countries'. The story of this book revolves around a village named Mano Majra and the people in it. This book was a good reading experience. It showcases how religion divided people. One could see how deep the clutches of religion are embedded in our society. The main characters as per me are Iqbal singh who comes to the village with a noble cause. Juggut singh, a dacoit, a badmash as everyone calls. Hukum chand, a magistrat...

2018-A year that went by...

As everyone else, I too welcomed 2018 with lots of resolutions and things to do. But me...being me...I didn't do any of those. Now when I look back,I realize that it was a crazy year. Had some bitter-sweet experiences, ups & downs and much more throughout the year. I also got to know and learn many things along the way. So here I am going to share all the lessons/things that I learned in this year, that went by so swiftly. To give up and to give in seems easy and a sensible thing to do in certain situations...but it’s also worthy to take that one step, that one leap towards your goal. Success and failures are two sides of same coin so don’t be afraid if you face a failure. Learn from it and go ahead. It’s ok if you don’t achieve/attain things as per the “timelines”. They don’t define you and your accomplishments. Knowledge is power...So keep yourself updated with new concepts, skills etc. Also share your knowledge with others. It might benefit someone. Being ...
